Children’s Centre

To enhance the lives of the children and families who live in the area we provide a number of community, health and family support services and activities which support the Every Child Matter’s Outcomes and the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Enjoy & Achieve

children at schoolWe offer numerous play sessions, including ‘baby play’ and ‘stay and play’ so parents/ carers can enjoy spending time with their children within the centre. Education opportunities for all the family are offered via family learning and adult education classes which are accompanied by crèches. Sefton FAST hold a weekly ‘Start Right’ group at the centre. During school holidays special sessions and trips are offered where older siblings are welcome to attend.

Be Healthy

To keep all the family fit and healthy we work with the health visitors who hold a weekly baby health club at the centre with weighing and health advice available. The community midwives provide antenatal education and advice, baby groups and baby massage. We host fun exercise classes for parents, baby and toddler yoga classes, toddler soccer and much more. Healthy Start vitamins are available from the centre. Regular cooking courses are held at the centre.

Stay Safe

mothers and childrenIf you live in Sefton and have children under 5 you may be eligible for large items of safety equipment, which includes fire guards, cupboard locks, window locks and safety gates (for families with children under 2 years old) The eligibility criteria is: Living in area of Sefton which falls into 30% deprivation rates (please check with the centre) and receiving any One of the following benefits: Income support, Jobseeker's allowance (income based), Income based Support and Employment Allowance (Oct 08), Tax credits- you or your partner receive tax credits AND have a valid NHS tax exemption certificate, Disability living allowance care or mobility component for a disabled child, Housing benefit or Council tax benefit (not council tax discounts).

The centre also has small items of safety equipment available for families living in 30% deprivation areas, please ask a member of centre staff for more information.

Regular First Aid courses are held.

Achieving economic well-being

We are supported by Job Centre Plus, [email protected] and Kaplan to help parents find education, employment and training.
A job’s file is available in reception and information about benefits, employment and training is available from the information kiosk in reception. We work with Hugh Baird College, Knowsley College, Local Solutions, The Bridge, Sefton FAST and Sefton Adult Education to provide courses including City and Guilds Maths and English.

Support for teenage parents

Weekly support for teenage parents is available. A.P.P.L.E is a parenting course focusing on supporting teenage parents on all aspects of caring for their new baby. P.I.P.S is an informal support group focusing on positive play, health, information, advice, guidance, peer mentoring and friendship. Referrals are made to Adams A.P.P.L.E a parenting course for teenage dads and dads to be.
